But why is it OK to dismiss foam in the sight glass of a properly designed 134 system when it was once considered the proper way to charge R-12 systems? Surely the engineers designing the system would not have purposely designed in inefficiencies. I also understand that blends may tend to bubble occasionally as the refrigerant could tend to momentarily fractionate. I realize when conversions are performed that bubbles might possibly be present as the system is not necessarily optimized for that particular refrigerant, but the system may still possess enough excess cooling capacity to off set any loss due to bubbles. I always thought bubbles were an indicator of one of two things, low refrigerant or insufficient condenser capacity under the observed conditions. Will somebody please explain to me why bubbles should be expected in a system that is using a single component refrigerant? In my mind, a properly designed system should not be expected to have bubbles, as bubbles will not go through a phase change when expanded in the evaporator and therefore will reduce cooling capacity. If the system charge is correct, the sight glass will be clear before entering the filter/drier, but the restriction could cause the refrigerant to go back to a saturated state and cause a saturated refrigerant to enter the TXV. Everything works, I just want to make sure that everything is ok. I was told by the guy who charged it that it would decrease when driving the car because more air would flow across the condenser.

My question is concerning the sight glass on the reciever dehydrator, you can see a constant flow of bubbles that speed up with engine rpm. of ester oil into back of compressor, evacuated the system to 26 inches, let vacuum pump run for about 3 hours.

I drained the compressor oil, replaced all of the o rings and flushed the system(including the muffler-oops). Fusite uses its brand leading glass-to-metal (GTM) sealing process to create highly compressed seals for hermetic sight glasses used as windows for visual. I replaced the reciever dehydrator and the thermal expansion valve. I recently converted my a/c system to 134a.
